![]() #Smartthings tv and avr control androidI don't care whether this is a small TV, a spare Android tablet or potentially even a mini-PC setup - as long as it's easy to use and reliable. Second question, I'd like to rig up some sort of screen that will either show constantly (or very quickly on request) the cameras I've got - a mix of Ring and Arlo currently. Then run Cat7 from there to the extension and have a second smaller router (plus ethernet switch if need be) as an access point. I'm thinking to use the AC87U as my main router in the house, connected to the Virgin router (the modem-mode brick) as that should be sufficient for the living room Fire TV, mobiles and tablets, plus the Echo's and cameras dotted around the house. But if I have to go the mesh route and sell on the AC87 then so be it. Given how much it cost I'd rather not write it off entirely in favour of a mesh setup - if I can incorporate it and make it useful that would be a big bonus. My current router is an Asus RT-AC87U which has been rock solid since I bought it 6 months ago. I do plan to have some sort of router in the extension, connected via ethernet and the TV/AVR and PC will all be connected hooked up via ethernet. Things are probably slightly complicated by the fact that two brick walls will separate the extension (where I plan to have the PC and good TV - streaming 4K) from the main house which is where the cable access point will be. With a raft of smart home gadgets (Echos, bulbs, cameras, door sensors etc) largely controlled by SmartThings I suspect I'll need to tinker with my wireless network setup and probably add to it. I'm moving house shortly into a bigger place which I suspect means that my existing wifi setup might struggle to reach. ![]()
